Christian Chukwu is a retired Nigerian footballer and coach. He was born on January 4, 1951, in Enugu, Nigeria. Chukwu played as a central defender and had a distinguished career for both club and country. He played for two of Nigeria's most successful clubs, Enugu Rangers and Africa Sports of Abidjan. He also played for the Nigerian national team, earning 47 caps and captaining the team in their first-ever World Cup appearance in 1982.
After his playing career, Chukwu became a coach and managed several clubs in Nigeria, including Enugu Rangers and the national team. He was also a technical advisor for several Nigerian clubs and served as the Director of the National Sports Commission. Chukwu received several awards for his contributions to Nigerian football, including the Order of the Niger in 2019.
In 2019, Chukwu was diagnosed with an illness that required medical treatment overseas. As a result, the Nigerian government and football community rallied around him to raise funds for his medical expenses. He underwent treatment in the United Kingdom and has since returned to Nigeria.
